INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.? Members of the Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police will meet Thursday evening to debate their support of suspended Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Officer David Bisard.
The FOP voted in 2010 to provide Bisard with a lawyer after a 2010 crash that killed one motorcyclist and injured two others.
Since that time, Bisard?s legal defense has become one of the most expensive cases in FOP history.
Last year?s ?IMPD Officer of the Year,? Det. Roger Gammon, has sent a letter to Bisard and other officers, urging Bisard to resign for the good of the department.
Bisard?s recent drunk driving arrest has some officers thinking it?s time to pull their financial support of his legal defense, though the prosecutor says it might be too late.
?It would be up to Judge Surbeck to even allow current defense counsel to get out at this stage,? said deputy prosecutor Denise Robinson. ?I don?t know that that?s even a possibility despite what the FOP might do.?
Bisard?s current attorney, John Kautzman, tells Fox59 News that if the FOP membership votes to end its support of Bisard tonight, he would likely continue as his private attorney.
